A song from the second album by the American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping (1974). It was written by the band members Ed King, Gary Rossington and Ronnie Van Zant.
The song caused (and still causes) much controversy. An entire verse in it refers to the famous American singer Neil Young, who in his songs "Southern Man" and "Alabama" spoke out against the policies of racism and segregation in the Southern states. As we know, slave psychology and racist attitudes have traditionally remained strong in the U.S. South for a long time, even after the Civil War and the defeat of the South. As late as the 1960s, the Southern states had a clear separation of schools, institutions, and businesses, separate for whites and blacks, and local governments maintained this order of things.

"Sweet Home Alabama" is used in the movie "Con Air (1997)". Steve Buscemi's character, Garland Greene, remarks: "Define irony. Bunch of idiots dancing on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash."

Also, this composition can be heard in the films "Forrest Gump", "Sahara", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Crimson Tide", "Joe Dirt".
In the movie "8 Mile", the main character (Eminem) reads a freestyle to the tune of this song. In animated film "Despicable Me" and etc...
